Hot desking

An example of a typical benefit delivered by many IP Telephony systems is 'hot desking or 'free seating'.

Hot desking provides the ability for individuals to sit at any desk of their choice and be able to personalise the telephone on that desk. This is normally accomplished by entering a specific code or activating a menu key, at which point, the telephone adopts their specific user profile including their own class of service and any unique features applicable to them. To prevent misuse users can also enter a PIN for verification.

Business benefits of hot desking

The use of hot desking allows businesses to make optimal use of available premises. With current trends seeing a more mobile workforce both road warrior type and home working (allowing for a greener agenda) the need to reduce dedicated office space becomes more and more important. By utilising hot desking, organisations can reduce the number of permanent allocated desks and therefore reduce their infrastructure running costs.
