Unified Communications Microsoft OCS and Exchange
The communications world is split in two, between communications on the telephone and communications on the computer. The split exists because telephone calls and voicemail depend on one network, while message based communications like email depend on a separate network. Unified Communications technologies are an evolving approach to communications that solves countless issues in the modern business environment. Unified Communications does much to tear down the walls that separate tele-communications and computing and provides a simplified approach to using business communications. With the above in mind Damovo is introducing a number of products into the portfolio to enable our customers to benefit from this new way of working.
Microsoft Exchange 2007
The first product is Microsoft Exchange 2007 which now incorporates email, voicemail and unified messaging, push email, fax and a speech interface to access these applications. Companies that use Microsoft Exchange and are considering upgrading to Exchange 2007 should understand the benefits to be gained from the converged applications that now exist within the product suite and should seek the opportunity to shape their future telephony and messaging estate. Enterprises who are also considering their mobile workforce need to understand the integrated capability Exchange 2007 can provide for access to corporate communications in multi-modal form that suit the user’s environment. Damovo has already deployed a couple of these solutions integrated with the MD110, one of which is at the Royal Society where the business is benefiting from a reduced number of servers and easier administration across the application suite.
Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007
To complement the above product, Damovo is also introducing Microsoft Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007 into the portfolio to offer VoIP telephony, instant messaging, presence multi-party video and collaboration. OCS 2007 offers users the ability to become more efficient in their day to day working environment. Damovo understands the tools the suite offers, and whilst they may not appear mandatory in today’s environment, once implemented can provide users with real competitive advantage. The importance of ensuring all telecommunications are integrated is paramount whether that is TDM telephony or IP telephony. Implemented correctly, users will find they have seamless business communications to effectively connect to their colleagues, partners, suppliers and customers. Following the Damovo customer events, a number of organisations have realised the benefits these applications can bring and have signed up for trials and are working closely with Damovo, through our consultative approach, to understand how these tools can be put to maximum use providing improved customer service and operational efficiency.
Ericsson Corporate Telephony
Anywhere Information Access is about extending the reach of business information and services beyond the desktop to phones and mobile devices, resulting in greater productivity for users on the move. With the huge reach of mobile phones, advances in speech recognition and text-to-speech technologies, and innovations like Microsoft Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007 integrated to the telephony and mobile environment, we now have the ability to deliver a rich unified communications experience to the end user.
Ericsson Corporate Telephony (ECT) allows enterprises to take control of their mobile telephony costs, while at the same time increasing the efficiency of the workforce. Integration of MX-ONE business-class telephony with Microsoft OCS through ECT supports presence-based communication control from the desktop and integration of communications with Microsoft Office. This enables each individual user to manage their communications in a user centric way rather than a technology centric fashion. Damovo has provided this functionality by integrating the telephony at Birmingham University into their OCS environment using ECT enabling the corporate telephony to become part of the user’s business process.
