MX-ONE V3.2 – product update!
Aastra has recently announced a delay in the release of the MX-ONE V3.2 product. The new target date for release is 29th September 2008; this is due to quality issues with some of the proposed functionality found during field trials. Furthermore, the promised support of T.38 Fax over IPLU links will not now be in the initial launch of V3.2. This functionality will now be included in a service pack due sometime after the initial launch. Aastra has also expressed that the much heralded Dual Mode support (simultaneous hand-over of GSM to WLAN [providing the call is routed through MX-ONE via SIP extension in the first place]) has not been conclusively tested. This is due to the leading edge nature of this technology and the unavailability of business class WLAN installations capable of supporting voice applications.
Other functionality that is scheduled to be included is:
- IP-DECT - the ability to use IP for the positioning of DECT base stations. The ‘over the air’ protocol remains DECT, but the need for dedicated wiring to the base stations is removed. This is ideal for remote offices that are connected via WAN (normal QoS policies apply).
- Manager Provisioning - this is a management tool that provides ‘Directory Information’ for other applications, such as OneBox and Aastra Contact Management Group (CMG). It is reported to be the platform to replace DNA Directory and Extension Managers.
- WiFi412 – a new handset based on the robust DT412 DECT handset, but this WiFi instrument is capable of being used on WLAN (increased coverage and QoS policies need to be considered) to provide wireless IP Telephony.
